Raised dog feeders are units that hold the dog bowls off the ground. There are various designs of raised feeder available, and some have been made to look stylish in your house. The main aim of a raised feeder is to prevent medium or large breeds of dog from swallowing air whilst they are eating, as this can contribute to stomach problems.

Slow eating dog bowls are shaped like a standard dog bowl, but have raised sections inside the bowl that force the dog to eat around these bumps. This slows down the speed in which the dog can eat, and reduces the digestion problems that can occur from gulping food down too quickly.

Automatic dog food dispensers comprise of a container and a bowl. The food stored in the container will flow down into the food bowl and ensure that the bowl is refilled automatically.

Placemats are mats that the dog food bowls can be put on top of. The placemat will ensure that the area around the food bowl remains clean. The placemats are easier to clean that most floor surfaces, and are sold in different attractive designs.

Food storage containers help to keep dry dog food fresh. Storing food in a sealed container deters pests such as mice, as well as making sure that your dog can’t sneak some extra food. Storage containers look much tidier than bags of dog food, and so will help your house to look good. Small food containers are available, as are larger storage bins.

Portion control food storage bins are food containers that are mounted on a wall, and dispense a one cup portion of dog food at a time. This will help you to measure out the correct ration of food for your dog.

Treat jars are storage containers that help to keep dog treats fresh and out of your dog’s reach. With such a large range of dog treats on the market, it is nice to be able to keep a selection of treats. The treat jars are also designed to look good in your kitchen.

Dog feed scoops are made from plastic and help you to serve dry dog food more easily. They will also allow you to accurately measure the amount that you are feeding your dog and will keep your portions consistent.

Plastic feeding forks are useful for serving wet dog food from a can. This will enable you to keep your dog’s fork separate from your own food utensils.

Dog food bag seal clips attach to bags of dog food to seal them closed, which will keep the food fresh and keep your dog’s nose out.

Dog food tin covers are plastic lids that are used to keep cans of dog food fresh once opened. They also help to contain the smell of dog food. Dog food that has been stored in the fridge should be warmed to room temperature before feeding.

Water fountains are available in a dispenser or fresh flow design. The dispenser design is similar to the food dispenser and it keeps the water bowl filled. The fresh flow water fountain not only keeps the water bowl filled, but in addition it filters and cools the water.

Puppy feeding bottles are available for feeding very young puppies, should you need to hand feed a puppy.

Travel food and water boxes open up to provide two bowls. Inside the box is a container that holds water, which can then be poured into the bowl.

Travel water bottles are normal water bottles with a bottle shaped bowl attached. The water pours into the bowl for the dog to drink from.

Road refreshers are a non-spill drinking bowl. This bowl is made with a plate inside that allows only a small amount of water through at a time and blocks surges of water. This bowl can be left full of water in a car and will not spill, so your dog can access water whilst travelling.

Tips for Feeding Your Dog

There is quite a variety of different dog foods available on the market. The main choice to make will be whether to buy wet or dry food, or to use a mix of both. This will be dependant on your preference and which type of food your dog likes best. When deciding on which brand, look at the ingredients and the nutritional value of the food. Remember to adjust your dog’s diet according to their size and activity levels. Most dog foods come with portion guidelines, but keep an eye on your dog’s weight and condition and adjust if necessary.

Dogs should be fed once or twice a day, and this should ideally be at regular times. Feeding should take place in a quiet place. Dogs should not be exercised for an hour before or after meals, as this can cause twisting of the gut which can be fatal. Certain human food such as chocolate can be harmful to dogs so be careful if feeding your dog anything other than dog food. If changing brand of dog food it is advisable to do so slowly as a sudden change can cause an upset stomach.  Puppies and pregnant dogs will need special diets, and your vet will also be able to advise on special diets needed for other health reasons. All dogs require constant access to water.
